Each year, Kiwanis Clubs around the world join in for a day of service. This year The Gold Country Kiwanis Club helped with The North Star House here in Grass Valley, California. The North Star House, built in 1905, was designed by the renowned California architect Julia Morgan. It was constructed as the residence of A.D. Foote, chief engineer of the North Star Mine from 1895 to 1913. The North Star House Residence was significant within the context of the development of Grass Valley's mining history. Decades of neglect contributed to the deteriorated state of the house, but a gradual, constant effort by collaborating forces within the community are returning this gem to its former glory.
